Put downtown Sanford's 2026 holiday events on one calendar and two weekends stand out. Friday, Dec. 4, through Saturday, Dec. 5, has the tree lighting, the Holiday Tour of Homes, a holiday market, a pet adoption event with Santa and an evening concert in Magnolia Square. Saturday, Dec. 12, through Sunday, Dec. 13, has the St. Lucia Festival, the Holiday Parade of Lights and a food truck fiesta. The rest of the season is lighter, apart from one long-running event at the Central Florida Zoo with its own deadline, and that deadline falls this Saturday, Oct. 31.
So for a Lake Forest household, the easier way to plan is weekend by weekend. Here's how the calendar lays out, starting with the date you need to act on first.
The One Deadline That Lands Before November
The Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens is running Asian Lantern Festival: Into the Wild, presented by Publix. It's on select nights from Nov. 13, 2026, through Jan. 17, 2027, from 6 to 10 p.m., at 3755 W. Seminole Blvd. in Sanford. It's the only big holiday event in Sanford that runs for more than two months. Every other event on the calendar fits into a single day.
Ticket prices go up on Sunday. The zoo's Oct. 16 announcement lists these prices:
| Ticket | Through Sat., Oct. 31 | Starting Nov. 1 |
|---|---|---|
| General admission | $25 | $27.99 |
| Family 4-Pack | $79.96 | $89.95 |
| Passholder, single | $21 | $24 |
| Passholder, 4-Pack | $74 | $84 |
A family of four that buys this week saves $9.99 over buying in November. Saving money is only half of it, though. Tickets are sold online only, for timed entry at 6, 7 or 8 p.m. The zoo says space is limited and that nights will sell out quickly. If you buy early, you get to pick a night that doesn't clash with the two downtown weekends below. Parking is free. The festival is outdoors and needs its own ticket, separate from regular zoo admission.
This year the displays move through space, North American animals, a Polar section and traditional Chinese lanterns. The new piece is a solar system display sponsored by Pro-Tech Air Conditioning, Plumbing & Electric.
The festival's special nights are worth booking around:
- Sensory Nights: Tuesday, Dec. 1, and Tuesday, Jan. 12, with sound and lighting turned down for guests with sensory sensitivities
- Adults-only nights, 21 and up: Thursday, Dec. 10, and Tuesday, Jan. 5
- Santa visits: Dec. 20–23
- Family New Year's Eve countdown: Dec. 31, at 7 and 8 p.m.
The Santa dates and the New Year's Eve countdown come after both downtown weekends. That makes the zoo the easy pick for the quiet stretch between Dec. 14 and the end of the year.
November Is the Warm-Up
Early November gives you a smaller version of the December pattern, with two events back to back.
On Saturday, Nov. 7, the city hosts the 20th Puerto Rican and Multicultural Festival. It runs 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the Sanford Civic Center, 401 E. Seminole Blvd. Admission and parking are free, and there will be performances, food, vendors and a children's area. That same evening, Sanford Main Street has a Back Yard Session in Magnolia Square from 6 to 9 p.m.
On Sunday, Nov. 8, the Sanford Food Truck Fiesta takes over downtown from 1 to 6 p.m. with food trucks, artisan vendors and live music.
The zoo festival opens five days later, on Friday, Nov. 13. The rest of November runs on downtown's regular monthly nights:
- Alive After 5 is the second Thursday of each month, 5 to 8 p.m., at 230 E. First Street. That makes the November date Nov. 12.
- The Sanford Shuffle is Friday, Nov. 20, 6:30 to 9 p.m.
- Sanford Art Walk is the third Saturday of each month, 6 to 9 p.m., starting at the Historic Sanford Welcome Center, 230 E. First Street. That makes the November date Nov. 21.
The Alive After 5 and Art Walk dates are worked out from the organizers' monthly schedules. Neither event has posted a dated 2026 listing yet, so check Historic Downtown Sanford the week of.
Weekend One: Dec. 4–5 Fills the Whole Saturday
The first December weekend opens Friday night with Light Up Sanford, the city's tree lighting in Magnolia Square, with holiday entertainment and a visit from Santa. The city's listing gives the date as Dec. 4, 6:30 to 8 p.m. Dec. 4 is the Friday this year. One line of the description still says "Friday, December 5," so check the page before you head downtown.
Saturday is the busiest day of the whole season. Four events overlap, and they go from morning into the evening:
| Time on Sat., Dec. 5 | Event | Where |
|---|---|---|
| 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. | Holiday Market | Magnolia Avenue and First Street |
| 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. | Paws & Claus adoption event with Santa photos | Ft. Mellon Park / RiverWalk |
| Noon – 9 p.m. | 37th Annual Holiday Tour of Homes | Check-in at Sanford Museum, 520 E. 1st Street |
| 6 – 9 p.m. | Back Yard Session | Magnolia Square |
The Sanford Historic Trust's Tour of Homes is the only one of these with a ticket. It's $30 per adult online before the event, $35 at the door and $15 for ages 6 to 12. Check-in opens at 11:45 a.m. Buying online saves $5 per adult, the same buy-early logic as the zoo's presale but on a smaller scale.
Because the tour runs from noon to 9 p.m., you can build the rest of Saturday around it. The market and Paws & Claus both run in the morning, the tour fills the afternoon, and the Back Yard Session starts as the tour winds down. Paws & Claus is put on by Seminole County Animal Services. If your family has been talking about adopting a pet before the holidays, it's an easy stop on the way to the market.
For a lunch stop that day, ClickOrlando reported in September that Hollerbach's German restaurant in Sanford had started testing a BellaBot robot to carry food between its kitchen and the Lodge bar. The owner planned a three-month trial through Oktoberfest and other events. If the trial stays on that schedule, the robot may still be making runs in early December.
Weekend Two: Dec. 12–13 Runs on the Parade's Clock
The second weekend is built around the parade. Here is Saturday, Dec. 12, in order:
- Noon to 4 p.m.: The St. Lucia Festival at the Museum of Seminole County History, 300 Eslinger Way. It's free and has performances, food trucks, crafts and samples of Swedish desserts and drinks.
- 1 p.m.: 1st Street closes from Mellonville Avenue to Elm Avenue. The city says cars parked on that stretch must be moved before the closure or they may be towed.
- 6 to 8 p.m.: The Holiday Parade of Lights runs a one-mile downtown route with lit-up floats.
The 1 p.m. closure is the key time of the day. It starts five hours before the first float and one hour after St. Lucia opens. If you plan to do both, don't park on 1st Street between Mellonville and Elm, even if you arrive at noon thinking you'll be back in time. The city's listing gives the route length but not a street-by-street map. Check that page in early December for any update.
On Sunday, Dec. 13, the Sanford Food Truck Fiesta comes back downtown from 1 to 6 p.m. It's an easygoing end to the busier of the two weekends.
The Weeknights Around the Two Weekends
Smaller events fill the space between and after the big weekends. The Thursday between them, Dec. 10, has two of them. Alive After 5's second-Thursday pattern puts it downtown from 5 to 8 p.m. The same night is the zoo's first adults-only lantern night. Because the zoo uses timed entry, choose one of the two. Or book the 8 p.m. lantern slot and see how the evening goes.
The week after the parade has the season's last downtown evenings. The Sanford Shuffle is Friday, Dec. 18, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. The Art Walk's third-Saturday pattern puts it on Dec. 19. After that, downtown Sanford has nothing else dated on the calendar, and the zoo has Santa visits from Dec. 20 to 23 plus the New Year's Eve countdown.
Here is the whole season in one view:
- By Sat., Oct. 31: Lantern festival presale ends
- Nov. 7–8: Multicultural Festival, Back Yard Session, Food Truck Fiesta
- Nov. 13: Lantern festival opens
- Dec. 4–5: Light Up Sanford, Holiday Market, Paws & Claus, Tour of Homes, Back Yard Session
- Dec. 10: Alive After 5 and the adults-only lantern night
- Dec. 12–13: St. Lucia Festival, Parade of Lights, Food Truck Fiesta
- Dec. 18–19: Sanford Shuffle and Art Walk
- Dec. 20–23 and Dec. 31: Santa and the New Year's Eve countdown at the zoo
